Pilates has long been celebrated for its ability to strengthen the body, improve posture, and build deep core stability. Whether practiced on the mat or using the Reformer, Pilates is a low-impact, highly effective form of movement that supports both physical and mental well-being.
Mat vs. Reformer Pilates: What’s the Difference?
Mat Pilates uses body weight as resistance and is fantastic for developing foundational strength, flexibility, and control. It requires focus and precision, making it a powerful standalone practice.
Reformer Pilates, on the other hand, uses a specially designed machine with springs and pulleys to add resistance and support. This equipment enables a greater range of motion and allows for targeted muscle activation, especially in the stabilisers—those deep core and joint-supporting muscles that are essential for functional movement and injury prevention.
Why Class Size Matters—Especially for Safety
While the benefits of Reformer Pilates are significant, the quality of instruction and attention to form are absolutely critical—especially when using equipment that requires coordination, control, and proper alignment.
At our small, bespoke studio, we make safety our top priority. Our instructors are fully trained and highly experienced, and we intentionally keep our Reformer classes small—just 5 beds per session. This ensures every client receives personalised guidance and hands-on support, reducing the risk of injury and promoting proper technique from the outset.
In larger studios with 15–20 Reformers, it’s simply not possible for instructors to provide the individual attention required to ensure safe and effective movement. Subtle misalignments can go unnoticed and potentially lead to strain or injury over time.
Our Approach: Safety, Support, and Personalised Progress
In our intimate setting, we don’t just teach Pilates—we get to know our clients. We take the time to understand your goals, limitations, and preferences so we can support your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This holistic approach helps build trust, comfort, and confidence in every session.
Because of this, our clients often notice faster progress in strength, mobility, and overall body awareness. Real-time feedback, tailored programming, and a deep commitment to individual care set us apart.
Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing stress, or simply wanting to move better and feel stronger, the difference in experience between a small studio and a large class is profound. With us, you’re not just another mat or machine—you’re truly seen, supported, and coached every step of the way.
We’d Love Your Feedback!
